In every community, there are inspirational figures that bring everyone together for a greater purpose. Those community champions continue to work hard to maintain our county’s sustainability and local pride to improve their neighbors’ quality of life.
Meet Prime Hendrix, an environmental community champion in San Bernardino County, CA. The SBC resident is the founder of JUST PLANT IT, a nonprofit organization with a mission “to “plant” positive growth within their communities through active volunteerism, partnerships, and leadership.”
“There was an open lot that I kept seeing since I’ve been in San Bernardino, and I saw it the same way for more than two years with nothing but trash and debris. I kept wondering why this was right between two houses full of kids. So, one day we went out and cleaned it, and it is now a community garden,” said Prime. “People don’t have access to organic food, and now we can provide that for them.”
Prime found peace and healing through gardening after the passing of his parents a few years ago. Volunteers of all ages are involved in his efforts through the nonprofit’s two initiatives.

Prime hopes to expand his nonprofit to all 50 states and have fresh organic produce grown by JUST PLANT IT community gardens in local stores. He is an inspiration to us all to work towards sustainable living and equality in our neighborhoods.
